Nelson Hendler graduated cum laude in psychology from Princeton University, where he also played varsity lacrosse. He earned his MD, and MS from University of Maryland School of Medicine, and did his residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was an assistant professor of neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine for 31 years, as well as president of the American Academy of Pain Management. He has published three books, 34 medical textbook chapters, and 58 articles. He has lectured in 12 countries, at over 50 medical schools and hospitals. He was president of the Princeton Alumni Association of Maryland and has served on numerous other non-profit and for profit boards, including two multi-billion dollar public companies, which were a bank and a life insurance company.
